This treatment is the application of a  patented 635 nm low energy laser, which has been shown through extensive research to cause  the fat within the adipocyte (fat cell) to leave the cell and accumulate in the interstitial space around the cells. The Zerona laser used for this treatment has no thermal effect on tissue. Instead, the non-invasive laser helps the body absorb fat by creating a micro pore in the fat cell wall allowing the “fat” components to seep into the interstitial space. This excess fat is then removed naturally by the body’s  lymphatic system and subsequently excreted without the negative side effects and downtime associated with more invasive procedures such as liposuction. This therapy has been tested in several institutional review board approved studies in a double blind; placebo controlled fashion and found to be generally effective.

I’ve been sent a flyer by my doctor to check your procedure out, I had gastic by pass three years ago and I’ve lose over 150 lbs, however I have a lot of excess skin hanging legs, thighs, torso area lower belly, arms, will this work for me or could I have too much excess skin for this procedure?

What price is charged for each session? My friend and I may be interested in this procedure. What else can you tell me that I need to know?

Some new lasers can actually improve stretch marks and reduce cellulite. Creams really aren’t effective for these skin conditions. Can the Zerona laser help with these skin conditions?

Patients undergoing the Zerona protocol are recommended to have 6 treatments (each treatment is about 40 minutes) completed within 2 weeks. This group of 6 treatments is sold as a package. Different facilities charge between $2000 – $3000 (with some a bit more or a bit less) for a group of treatments. You will need to contact the independent facility you wish to go to and ask what they are charging.

The Zerona laser is a “cold” laser…no heat is generated. During the Zerona treatments, the fat cells are stimulated to release some of their stored triglyceride (fatty acids). This results in a reduction in the size of the fat cells. The other use of cold lasers is their ability to provide some anti-inflammatory effect…these lasers have been used clinically to help improve muscle and tendon related pain.

Some improvement in the appearance of cellulite may be obtained with the reduction in fat. Therefore, other concurrent cellulite treatments (such as endermologie) may be even more useful when used with the Zerona.

Unfortuately, it does not appear that the Zerona makes any difference in the appearance of stria (stretch marks). Also, since the Zerona does not directly stimulate skin retraction, there will be no improvement in patients with sagging or loose skin. If the skin elasticity is good, then mild skin retraction may occur as the fat volume is reduced — this is a natural process and does not happen because of the laser.
